Apparently, the role of Angus will be expanded for the series.
Walters [Stephen Martin Walters] will play Angus Mhor, whose role in the books was much smaller, but will be expanded for the series. Another member of Clan Mackenzie, Angus is a hard drinker who’s always looking for a fight. Angus hates the Brits, so as far as he’s concerned, Claire can go back to where she came from — dead or alive. Rarely seen without a bottle in his hand, Angus is nonetheless an extremely skilled fighter, and a loyal clansman, making him an asset to both Colum and Dougal. ~ Natalie Abrams, tvguide.com
This British actor’s film credits are impressive, including Layer Cake (which is the movie said to have gotten Daniel Craig his role as James Bond) Hannibal Rising and Batman Begins, to name a few.
However, concern has been expressed by some fans over Walters’ size/height; in Outlander, Angus is described by Claire as one of the largest men she has ever seen:
I stared at at this giant with some awe. Coarse black hair grew far down on his forehead, barely meeting the beetling eyebrows. Similar mats covered the immense forearms, exposed by the rolled-up sleeves of his shirt. Unlike most of the men I had seen the giant did not seem to be armed… A broad leather belt circled what must be a forty-inch waist… In spite of his size, the man had an amiable expression, and seemed to be joking with the thin-faced man, who looked like a marionette in comparison with his hige conversant… ~ Outlander, page 70
Walters is sort of known for playing a good crazy guy; I’m thinking he was chosen for his ability to project that…? In this clip from the movie Layer Cake, starring Daniel Craig, fast forward to minute marker 23:00 for a glimpse of Walters’ acting chops:
I see a little badass in there. Can you see the ‘crazy?’
And really, it all boils down to this:
@JulieaQSmith @Heughan Easy. It _is_ punishment, rather than a fight. Jamie doesn’t fight back.

@JulieaQSmith@Heughan One good punch in the belly, and they’ll be on the same level. #fightchoreography

As long as there are great relationships and awesome violence with quality kills and Diana’s wit shines through, I will be happy.

I’m trusting the writers to treat this stuff well, so on that note, I’m cautiously looking forward to see what we get with Angus. 😀

I know this is going to sound crazy (and I’m really not serious about it), but as I watch the episodes of “Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited” that I taped for some unknown marathon, I see that the second Doctor Who’s companion was…(wait for it, if you don’t already know) a survivor from the battlefield of Culloden, straight from the battle, with the Doctor rescuing him from an English soldier whose rifle was aimed directly at him and his filthy kilt. And altho brown-haired, the Scottish lad’s name was…JAMIE!!! Wouldn’t it be hilarious if they just showed a flash of a blue police box flashing by as Jamie escapes with his fellow survivors from the battle, sort of like a subliminal image? OK, I’d veto it also if anyone else suggested it. But I just had to get it our of my system.
Speaking if potential Claires: does anyone know if they’re just going for characters from the first two books, and from those, only the parts while Claire and Jamie are young? Because if they do it right and the series takes off, they need to think about either beng prepared to age the actors (which is so time consuming and expensive, and although it’s been very successfully done in movies, the actors all hated it), or cast with a mind to who would be best to take over for the character 20-odd years on. I used to think Gwynneth Paltrow as young Claire and her mom, Blythe Danner as older Claire; but that was when I was mentally casting the book long before anyone else was talking about filming it. They’d never work now. Or would they…?

expanding Angus Mhor’s story is a turn off. There is so much material in the books why would they need to? please stick to the story. You have 7 almost 8 books.
